I was going for a drive today and doing a dash of car spotting when I happened to come across this. I was lucky enough to chat with the owner's brother, who was pretty much clueless about it, other than the fact that it has a V8. So here's what I gathered
-It seems to be a factory job. If not, then it's insanely well done
-It has a soft top
-It's a 2 door
-It's supercalifuckinepic
Does anyone have more info on this? A quick Google search doesn't produce any conclusive results. It appears it may have started life as a Camel trophy truck, but that doesn't explain the convertible part.
Oh, and sorry for the crappy pictures.

It's not everyday you see a unicorn decaying due to neglect. Camel trophy rigs were properly sorted when built. This makes me a sad panda.

Through a quick Google search, I've found nothing. I need to know more, and I need to see it as a whole.
Edit: I searched for a Discovery, oops. Apparently this was a commonish conversion.

Looks to be an early 2 door RRC which is special in its own right but I don't think it started its life as a camel trophy truck. That soft top is not factory but someone did a rather tidy job with it. Very cool find!

They made defenders in a configuration like this, why not rangie's too? If I had more time I would watch old camel trophy videos to see if I could spot something like this.

This is not a genuine Camel Trophy Range Rover from 1981 or 1982 as there was only one survivor. This one (picture from 2004)
" In 1981 Camel started using Range Rovers for the events. This was the first Land Rover product that they used. They used the 2 door Range Rover for two years (1981/1982) See result details at the bottom of this page
We found one in August this year (2004), and it is need of repair and and good clean. But is a real Camel Trophy Range Rover, which has been confirmed by Land Rover and Gaydon. There are allot of copy Range Rover Camels , so that was so nice about finding the (as such ) Camel Trophy Holy Grail
We believe (well Know) that this is the oldest Land Rover Camel Trophy truck about. As before the oldest Range Rover was the 1987 ones which are rare as well. All of the Range Rovers from the 1981/2 events were believed to have been crushed. But this one was bought by the father of one of the Holland team. And then him and his son , years later took it around Africa. And then they left it and was bought by a specialist North east of Amsterdam, Hans Hocope . Where he kept hold of it in a shed fort about the past 15 years".
The one at the top of the page is a very early 1980 Range Rover which has been converted to a soft top/ute.
Similar roof line to this one on sale in Colorado Springs for USD$7,500 with 170,000 miles on the clock.

Similar roof line to the Colorado one, but completely different top and different A pillar.

Ye', unfortunately there is no description of who did the conversion or where.
The A pillar is bound to be different as there is possibly up to seven or eight years between the to Rangies.
